How to join
A.S.I.A.N! understands that it is people who transform current
exploitative conditions to create a more humane society. This can only
be accomplished through collective, systematic, and persistent work - and
this takes organization.
Membership is open to anyone who agrees with our ideology and organizational
structure. Joining us requires that you participate in the following four
activities:
-
Come to one of our public events
We are continuously organizing events focusing on Asian women in the
United States and internationally (e.g., garment industry, mail-order brides).
Our programming also links conditions affecting Asian women with concerns
of other peoples (e.g., affirmative action, Mumia Abu-Jamal and political
prisoners, Hawai'ian sovereignty, and the Dineh ). Come to one of our public
events to learn more about these issues and to see how we conduct our activities.
-
Attend our Orientation Session
The orientation session will give you an overview of our organization
- our ideology, organizational structure, and activities. It will also
be a chance for us to get to know each other better.
-
Participate in our Study Program
We offer a 5-session program to introduce our ideas and activities
to you. We ask that you read about 25 pages per session and then collectively
discuss and clarify key issues and concepts. Because we believe that ideas
guide our practice, this study is designed for you to gain a better understanding
of our political beliefs.
-
Help Organize an Event
The "in action" part of our organization's name means that we believe
action is needed to improve conditions facing Asian/Asian American women
and to develop our ideological and organizational expertise. So, we ask
prospective members to help organize one of our events.
After completing these four activities, you are welcome to join A.S.I.A.N!
by meeting with one of our members to discuss your membership request.
