The committee is developing a conference that will address Chican@/Latin@ graduate students for Fall 2006. Our goals are to provide a forum for prospective grad students to engage in an academic dialogue about issues concerning the Chican@/Latin@ community. Details will follow soon.

Workshops

The Funding Committee is organizing several workshops:

  • Organize a workshop about funding opportunities available through Graduate Division
  • Organize a workshop with the funding peer advisor to provide information on other sources of funding
  • Organize a workshop on academic publishing for graduate students
We will also create a timeline with recommended fellowships that are available for the different stages of graduate research (pre-dissertation, dissertation, post-doc, etc.), as well as create a Newsletter with updates of upcoming fellowship and grant opportunities

Santa Barbara Latino Cinemedia Festival

We are planning a trip to the Santa Barbara Latino Cinemedia Festival. The cost is $95 for a 12-person pass, good for a group of 12 to see one film or one single person to view 12 films. Please contact Luz Maria to indicate your interest.

Social event

We are also forming a social event for our group members; a chance to unwind and destress from the pressures of our studies. We are taking ideas for possible activities, such as a trip downtown for dancing, wine tasting, a game night, or an afternoon at the beach.
