Kappa Omega History
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Kappa Omega Chapter was founded on the UC Santa Barbara campus, February 14, 1974 by seven influential women. Kappa Omega holds the distinct honor of being the first African American organization on the campus of UCSB. DSQ Kappa Omega is responsible for setting the pace for every other Black Organization and group at UCSB. Over the years Kappa Omega members have initiated many activities include, but are not limited to: assisting with voter registration, an annual Youth Leadership Conference, Intellectual Delta house-allowing students a comfortable place to study for midterms and finals, and annual Condom Balloon Sale, candlelight vigils, and active participation in the Endowment for Youth Black Achievement Awards. Along with the many Delta Sponsored activities, Kappa Omega Chapter members have also been active leaders for the campus politically. Members have expressed their interest in being positive role models by participating in campus groups/organizations such as: Black Student Union, Black Business Association, Black Pre-Law, EOP Peer Advisors, Resident Assistants, Career Peers, Black Grad Committee, UCSB Gospel Choir, and participating in Associated Students as members of finance Board, Community Board and Legislative Council The National goals and standards of Delta Sigma Theta that are illustrated in our Five Point Program shine through in our Sisterhood within the members of the Chapter. In addition, our contributions to the local and campus community emulates our strong beliefs in striving to be Successful, Competent, and Positive Role Models for our people.. |
