Recent Graduate Student Accomplishments

 Castaneda, Gary Advanced to candidacy in July 2003. Currently conducting his dissertation fieldwork in Mexico with yearlong funding from a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship. In addition, he is a visiting professor at the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE) in Mexico City.
 Chwieroth, J.J.   earned his Ph.D. in the Spring of 2003.
 Cook, Christopher   Instructor for Law and Society
 Frey, Laura   First place paper prize 2003 PAPOR Conference, "Measuring the impact of crisis events on presidential approval:
An objective approach to the rally phenomenon"
 Geissler, Sandra   passed the International Relations qualifying exam in the Fall of 2003
 Johnson, Diane   earned her Ph.D. in the Spring of 2003.
 Kasdin, Stuart   Paper presented at March, 2004 Public Choice Conference. Manzer-Wesson Award.
 Lawyer, Jared   Passed the Comparative Politics qualifying exam in the Spring of 2004. Presented a paper titled "The Role of Private Military Organizations in Failing Nation States" at the Multinational Corporations, Development and Conflcit conference at Oxford, UK.
 Michaud, Kristy   passed the Comparative Politics qualifying exam in the Spring of 2003 and spent the Summer interning for Resources for the Future in Washington, D.C.
 Pinnell, Sabrina   Advanced to candidacy in June 2003. Currently working on dissertation research regarding the Russian Constitutional Court and federalist reforms in the Russian Federation.
 Rapp, April K.   passed the Comparative Politics qualifying exam in the Spring of 2003.

 Russell, Jesse   passed the International Relations and the Comparative Politics qualifying exams in the Spring of 2003.
 Sinutko, Derek   received the Department's Colin Reed Manzer-Robert G. Wesson Award for the best dissertation prospectus in political science for 2002-2003. In addition, he attended the Summer Institute in Political Psychology at Ohio State University in July with fellowship funds from the Graduate Division.
 Willoughby-Herard, Tiffany   earned her Ph.D. in the Spring of 2003.
 Young, Colin   Received the 2003-2004 Academic Senate and UCSB Foundation
Distinguished Teaching Assistant Award.
 Zhang, Ning   passed the International Relations and the Comparative Politics qualifying exams in the Spring of 2003.
