The Lebanese Club
at UCSB organized The First Annual Middle Eastern Fair at the Storke
Plaza on Wednesday May 30th at 11 AM.
The fair will featured a myriad of attractions aimed to engage the students
visiting and educate them about the Middle East. We were trying to increase the
awareness and to offer a much brighter image of the Middle East than what is
presented in the media.
We
served Middle Eastern desserts and traditional coffee. In addition to that,
each country had a table filled with information about the history of that
country and its tourist attractions. We also had a number of interactive
workshops that entertained the attendees and taught them some tricks and crafts
from our cultures. Workshops about "Pimping Your Hookah", "Belly Dancing
101", "Basics of the Arabic Language" and "Arabic
Calligraphy" were
featured. Then the members of the Lebanese Club and the members of the Persian
Club performed two traditional dances. The Middle Eastern Ensemble at UCSB
then performed live for the crowds.
In addition to all the events we hosted, we invited the Middle East Studies Department, the EOP, and the MCC to participate in the fair and advertise for their programs
