Meeting on Wednesday April 11th 2007
Topics Discussed:
At our Club meeting we first discussed Barbecues and Hikes.
1. For the Hikes, whenever someone feels like going on a hike with the Lebanese
Club, then just let me know and I'll notify the club in advance via e-mail or
phone.
2. As for Barbecues, The dates that we should probably consider are May 19th
and May 20th. Let me know what you think.
3. We also talked about going KAYAKING Downtown.
A single Kayak costs $20
A double Kayak costs $30 (split between 2 people $15 each).
We decided that this event should happen right after our beach or street
cleanup.
More details on that when I get the available dates from the Shoreline
Preservation Fund
4. As soon as the Middle Easter Resource Center gets the Television set
donated by the Women's Center, then Lebanese Club would like to have a weekly
Wednesday Movie Night! If you have any movies you want the Club to play, let us
know
5. The Middle Eastern Fair : Our BIG event of
the Quarter
This will be our first cultural event. We have the Storke Plaza reserved for
Wednesday May 30th between 11 and 2. The fair will showcase each of the
countries represented in the Lebanese Club. The point is to try to sell our
countries to the student body and to make us look good. We are also planning a
bunch of workshops and we will have food and performances. Nothing is fixed yet
expect the date. Please help us out with ideas and suggestions. We will have a
meeting this Wednesday at 8 PM in the MERC to discuss the fair more. We are in
the process of requesting money for the event. We are looking at a $5,000++
budget so that we can make it big. Please show up with your thinking hats on.
6. Catherine talked about some movies during the meeting concerning the
Israel-Palestine Conflict . We will keep you informed about these movies
through the Lebanese Club Website:
http://orgs.sa.ucsb.edu/lebanese or Facebook Group:
http://ucsb.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2200552723 Check the websites later
today for more info. It would be nice if we could show up and then stay for the
discussion afterwards. If you do not like what you saw, say something.
7. Thalia is the MAC of her hall (San Miguel) and is putting on a program to
promote Greek culture and dance. So Lebanese club members were asked to help
and/ or attend this event for fun and promotional purposes. Thalia suggested
that we can teach the students belly dancing and dabke. Sounds like a lot of
fun. If you are interested then contact Thalia or myself and either of us will
provide you with the details.
8 . Diana mentioned a way you could get a $50 gift certificate to borders and a
free lunch. The money could be spent on you, or you could donate it to the
Middle Easter Resource Center! It's up to you... (J/K or not?)
If you are currently taking or have taken a course in American or World
History, then you can participate. You will be asked to answer questions about
