Joining a sorority is a wonderful opportunity to enrich your life, but it is important to realize that you are joining an organization that needs funding to be able to continue serving its members. As a member you will make payments that will go toward chapter dues, national dues, social functions, house maintenance, participation in philanthropic events, and other miscellaneous expenses that the sorority needs to pay. As a member of the sorority you will be contributing to the success of the organization. Each sorority has different costs and thus the payments vary from house to house, but they are all in the same range. The first quarter that you become a new member in a sorority will be the most expensive. There are one-time payments including initiation fees, new member fees, and badge or pin fees. After these payments are made the costs of the sorority will significantly decrease. Members of the sorority that live in the chapter house find it more inexpensive in comparison to living in on-campus housing, other dorms, or apartments in Isla Vista or Goleta. This is an excellent way to keep your expenses down and provide a wonderful experience during your time here at UCSB.
