The SBDC will be holding our 3rd annual 8-day Dance Cruise to the Mexican Riviera for December 2008, during the Winter Break. The dates will be Sunday – Monday, December 14th – 22nd, 2008, aboard the Carnival Spirit, leaving from SAN DIEGO, CA, with stops at Manzanillo, Acapulco, and Ixtapa! GREAT prices available for a limited time (double occupancy, per person): Inside Cabin $510, Ocean-view $590, Balcony $710, + more. Not including Port charges and taxes ($274 per person). The SUMMER THURSDAY Night SBDC Meetings are held in Robertson Gym room 2320(near Map grid D-3). Here is a PDF Map of UCSB Campus. Here is another map to help find your way to Robertson Gym .
The closest parking lot to Robertson Gym is now in the “Mesa Parking Garage” (to the East of Rob Gym).

NEW location for (most) Special SBDC Dance Workshops and Dance Events: In the NEW UCSB Student Resource Building (SRB) Multipurpose Room (room 1112). Convenient Parking! (New 4-level parking garage next door, in Lot 22). Near the UCSB Faculty Club and UCSB Thunderdome! You can find this on the UCSB Campus Map, Map Grids E-1 and E-2. You can also find it here with the SRB highlighted.

NOTE #1: SBDC Summer 2008: THURSDAY NIGHTS Open Dancing, Beginning THURSDAY JUNE 19th. The SBDC will have THURSDAY NIGHTS OPEN DANCING! Totally FREE! At UCSB Robertson Gym Room 2320 (upstairs). There is NO Membership Fee for any SBDC Summer activities. Just come and dance! Bring your friends. Schedule: June 19th through September 4th, Rob Gym Room 2320, 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Watch for upcoming announcements of schedule changes.

NOTE #2: NEW UCSB Summer Session 2008 Class: Jitterbug Swing – Beyond the Basics. Thursday nights beginning July 3rd for 4-weeks. UCSB Robertson Gym room 2320 (upstairs). This class is designed for those dancers who are already comfortable with the basics of Swing Dances, and would like to move beyond to more advanced patterns. This course will work on steps, techniques, and styling of more advanced Swing Dances, including Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, and East Coast Style Swing. If time permits, we will introduce Swing Dance Line Dances. Taught by Steve Carlan and Anna Hernandez of the Swing and Ballroom Dance Club at UCSB. Cost $25/summer session, register at the UCSB Recreation Department Cashier’s Office. No Partners Needed.

NOTE #3: NEW Saturday Night Dances Format, Beginning August 2008. Carrillo Recreation Center Ballroom. NEW Time: 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm, with a dance lesson from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Each Saturday of the month has a different “theme” (Country, Tango, International Ballroom, American Ballroom, etc.). Recorded/DJ music only.

NOTE #4: Hold the Date: Saturday September 27th, 2008. The SBDC will be holding a SPECIAL “Back To School Swing Dance”, featuring the legendary Swing, Blues, and Boogie-Woogie of Rob Rio and His Revolvers. This will be held from 9:00 pm to 12:00 midnight, in UCSB Student Resources Building (room 1112). This dance will be FREE for Everyone!. The SBDC will be providing light refreshments. There will be a free introductory Swing Dance Lesson at 8:00 pm, prior to the dance. No partners needed. All ages OK. Bring your friends, too. (Co-Sponsored by the UCSB OSL After Dark Program).

NOTE #5: Reminder: The UCSB Transportation and Parking Services requires that ALL cars have valid evening/weekend-day parking permits. New UCSB parking prices as of July 2007: Non-permit holders may purchase evening/weekend-day permits for $3 at any of the parking permit machines. Also monthly evening/weekend-day permits are available for $12.
