NOTE #1: SBDC WINTER QUARTER 2010. The SBDC meetings for Winter Quarter 2010 will take place on Monday nights in Robertson Gym room 2320, from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm.

NOTE #2: COMNG SOON: SPECIAL SBDC LINDY HOP WORKSHOP and DJ SWING DANCE. On Saturday evening, February 20th, the SBDC will be holding SPECIAL Lindy Hop Workshop Classes featuring World-Famous Rob Van Haaren and his wife Diane. This will take place in the UCSB Robertson Gym, room 2320 (upstairs). The INTERMEDIATE Level Lindy Hop class will be from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm and the BEGINNING Level Lindy Hop Class will be from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, This will be immediately followed by the DJ Music Swing Dance from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Cost for the ENTIRE 2 x Workshop Classes AND the DJ Swing Dance Package: General Admission: $25; UCSB Students: $15; SBDC members: FREE. Cost for ONLY the DJ Swing Dance: General Admission or UCSB Students: $7; SBDC Members: FREE. Light refreshments will be provided. No prior experience is needed for the Beginning Class. NO dance partners are needed. Large wooden dance floor.

NOTE #3: NEXT WEEK: SBDC Valentine’s Theme Night. Monday 2/15/2010, Week #7. Wear Valentine’s Day colors. Our Basics I Lesson will be in the “Tango”. We will have a special “hearts” dance, with dance cards for the followers.

NOTE #4: NEXT MONTH SBDC Live Band Swing Dance! Saturday March 6th, 2010. The SBDC will be holding a SPECIAL “MARCH MADness Swing Dance”, featuring the fabulous Swing, Blues, and Big Band sounds of The Jumpin’ Joz Band! This will be held from 9:00 pm to 12:00 midnight, in UCSB Student Resources Building (room 1112). Cost: SBDC Members: Free; UCSB Students: $5, General Admission: $10. The SBDC will be providing light refreshments. There will be a free introductory Swing Dance Lesson at 8:00 pm, prior to the dance. No partners needed. All ages OK. Bring your friends, too. (Co-Sponsored by the UCSB OSL After Dark Late Nite Social Programming Fund$.).

NOTE #6: UPDATED Downtown SB Dancing Announcement: The Downtown Santa Barbara Carrillo Recreation Center Ballroom is now closed for renovation and upgrades. The 3rd and 4th Saturday Night Dances (Ballroom and Swing) have been CANCELLED until further notice! The 1st and 2nd Saturday Night Dances (Country and Tango) and the 1st and 3rd Friday Night Dances have been moved next door to the Carrillo Recreation Center Gymnasium. NOTE #7: UCSB 2009 Leadership and Activity Awards: The Swing and Ballroom Dance Club was the winner of the 2009 “Late Night Social Programming Award”, from the Leadership Development Center! This award was for the highly successful and always popular Friday and Saturday Night Swing Dance Events that the SBDC sponsored each school quarter. Congratulations and thanks to everyone who helped make this award possible!

NOTE #8: SBDC Membership Pricing Policy:. Beginning January 2009, SBDC RENEWAL Membership fees have been reduced to: $10 for students per quarter; $15 for non-students per quarter. The $20 New SBDC Membership fees still apply. ALSO, there will now be a one-time-only per quarter “Drop-In Fee” of $5, for anyone who has already visited the SBDC at least one time, and wishes to attend another SBDC event without having to join as a new member for $20 (or re-join as a renewing member for $10/$15). This will be especially beneficial for people who are visiting the UCSB area for a short period of time. Note: these fees are subject to change.
