SWING and BALLROOM DANCE CLUB Weekly Meetings (FALL QUARTER 2009 Info)
1) Regular SBDC dance/practice meetings are held on MONDAY nights, 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm +, in UCSB Robertson Gym Room 2320 (upstairs), beginning September 28th, 2009.
2) Membership in the SBDC is open to anyone (UCSB student, staff, faculty, or SB community member) who has an interest in social dancing (Swing, Ballroom, Latin, and Salsa).
3) We welcome dancers of ALL abilities, and have a Basics I program to help the beginner dancers get started. NO prior experience is needed. NO dance partners are needed.
4) Your first time visit to the SBDC is FREE as our guest. Then, if you decide to join the club, there is a $20 New Members membership fee for the school quarter.
5) You can visit the SBDC Web Site at http://orgs.sa.ucsb.edu/sbdc for more information about the SBDC and dancing opportunities in Santa Barbara.
6) UCSB Parking: UCSB Parking still $3 for weekend or night time events. The closest parking lot to Robertson Gym is still the “Mesa Parking Garage” (East of Rob Gym).
7) Locations: Regular SBDC Monday Night Meetings are held in Robertson Gym Room 2320 (upstairs).
Most Special SBDC Dances and Workshops will be held in NEW UCSB Student Resources Building (SRB) Multipurpose Room (room 1112). Easy Parking. (New 4-level parking garage next door , in Lot 22). NEW SBDC Membership Pricing Policy (Fall Quarter 2009). Beginning in January 2009, SBDC RENEWAL Membership fees have been reduced as follows: $10 for students per quarter; $15 for non-students per quarter. The $20 NEW SBDC Membership fees still apply. ALSO, there will now be a one-time-only per quarter “Drop In Fee” of $5, for anyone who has already visited the SBDC at least one time, and wishes to attend another SBDC event without having to join as a new member for $20 (or re-join as a renewing member for $10/$15). This will be especially beneficial for people who are visiting the UCSB area for a short period of time. Note: these fees will be subject to change.
CURRENT ANNOUNCEMENTS:
** SBDC Fall Quarter 2009. For Fall Quarter 2009 the SBDC will meet every Monday Night in UCSB Robertson Gym room 2320 from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm. This will be the REGULAR meeting day, time, and location for the entire 2009 – 2010 School Year. UCSB Parking still $3 for night time events.
** THIS WEEK: The SBDC will be holding our next Special Live Band “FRIDAY the 13th” Swing Dance on Friday, November 13th, featuring the outstanding Swing and Boogie-Woogie Piano playing of Rob Rio (solo). This will be held from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm in UCSB Robertson Gym room 2320 (upstairs). Cost: SBDC Members: Free; UCSB Students: $3, Non-Students: $10. The SBDC will be providing light refreshments. No partners needed. All ages OK. Bring your friends, too.
** SBDC FQ 2009 THEME NIGHTS:
Week #9: Monday November 23rd – “Crazy Hat” Theme Night. Wear your craziest hat! Any style, any color, any shape. Prizes for the best hats.
** Downtown SB Dancing Announcement: The Downtown Santa Barbara Carrillo Recreation Center Ballroom is now closed for renovation and upgrades. The 1st and 3rd Friday Night Swing Dances, and the Saturday Night Dances have been moved next door to the Carrillo Recreation Center Gymnasium. Details at the Ballroom Renovation Web Site .

** UCSB 2009 Leadership and Activity Awards: The Swing and Ballroom Dance Club was the winner of the 2009 “Late Night Social Programming Award”, from the UCSB Leadership Development Center! This award was for the highly successful and always popular Friday and Saturday Night Swing Dance Events that the SBDC sponsored each school quarter. Congratulations and thanks to everyone who helped make this award possible!

The SBDC will be holding a SPECIAL “FRIDAY the 13th” Swing Dance, featuring the outstanding Swing and Boogie-Woogie Piano playing of Rob Rio! This will be held from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm in UCSB Robertson Gym room 2320 (upstairs). Cost: SBDC Members: $0; UCSB Students: $3; General Admission: $10. The dance goes from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm, with a lesson from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Recorded/DJ Music. Each Saturday of the month has a different “theme” (Country, Tango, Ballroom, Swing, etc.).
