Highlights of Fall Quarter 2006 SBDC Activities
The Swing and Ballroom Dance Club was very active this past quarter. Here is a summary of some of our recent Fall Quarter 2006 activities and events (photos will be added in the future, when available).
- SBDC Dance Etiquette "Tip of the Week"
- As an ongoing feature, the Swing and Ballroom Dance Club publishes a weekly Dance Etiquette "Tip of the Week". Each week, we announce the etiquette tip, and then it is posted on the SBDC Web Site.
SBDC Weekly Basics I Lesson Schedule
As another continuing feature, the SBDC Weekly Basics I Lesson Schedule is posted on the SBDC Web Site. For Fall Quarter, we provided our members with a wide range of dance subjects. SBDC club members are able to find the dance topics of interest from the schedule, and plan in advance to attend those lessons. All lessons are supervised or conducted by the SBDC club officers.
Spring Quarter Major Dance, Workshop, and Theme Nights!
The SBDC held our "Fall Harvest Dance" on Saturday, November 18th. It was a special evening of Swing, Ballroom, Latin, and Salsa dancing. The Robertson Gym was decorated for the Fall Harvest / Thanksgiving Holidays.
The SBDC held a specialty SALSA Workshop on Saturday, November 4th, 2006. This featured our Special Guest Instructor, Joshua James
For Fall Quarter, we held a "Costume" Theme Night (Halloween) on Monday October 30th, and a "Crazy Hat" Theme Night on Monday November 27th. And, we held our traditional "PIZZA and VIDEO Night" on Monday December 11th.
The SBDC also held our First Ever Dance Cruise!
The 4-day SBDC “Swingin’ At Sea” Dance Cruise took place December 18 – 22, 2006, aboard the Carnival “Paradise”. We had a total of 40 cruisers who attended, including instructors Joshua James (Salsa, Bolero, Cha-Cha/Mambo), and new “daddy” Russell Knight (Waltz, Tango, West Coast Swing), plus our own SBDC president Steve Carlan (Lindy Hop, Balboa). For most, this was their very first cruise ever! With stops in Avalon, Catalina Island, and Ensenada, Mexico, we squeezed in 3 mornings/afternoons of dance instruction. In the evenings, we danced to the ship’s 4-piece band, “Music Forever”. They played a wide variety of music for us, including swing, salsa, waltz, tango, cha-cha, and more. Everyone agreed that they want to go on another Dance Cruise with the SBDC, possibly next December for a 7-day trip (Los Angeles, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas).
