SBDC Dance Event and Activity Announcements

Here are the current FALL QUARTER 2009 SBDC Dance Events and Activities Announcements:

  1. Weekly SBDC Club Practice Nights FALL QUARTER 2009
    date: Monday Nights (beginning September 28th, 2009).
    location: UCSB Robertson Gym, Room 2320
    time: 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm
    cost, new members: $20 SBDC membership fee per school quarter
    cost, renewing members: $10 for Students; $15 for non-students sponsored by: the Swing and Ballroom Dance Club at UCSB
    other: We will be offering weekly club practice nights for our "Basics I" Swing, Latin, and Ballroom lessons, practicing what you know, dancing to the music, or working on style, timing, and technique. You can also meet new people, learn new steps, or just hang out and socialize. No Partners Needed. All ages OK. Bring a friend! This will be the REGULAR meeting day, time, and location for the 2009 – 2010 School year. UCSB Parking still $3 for night time events.

  2. SBDC Fall Quarter “OCTOBER SWING-FEST” Swing Dance with Flat Top Tom and His Jump Cats!
    date: Saturday, October 24th, 2009
    location: UCSB Student Resource Building (SRB) Multipurpose Room (room 1112)
    time: 9:00 pm to 12:00 midnight
    cost: SBDC Members: FREE; UCSB Students (non-members): $3; General Admission: $10.
    details: On Saturday, October 24th, 2009, the SBDC will be holding a SPECIAL “OCTOBER SWING-FEST” Swing Dance featuring the fabulous Swing, Jump Blues, Rockabilly, and R&B sounds of FLAT TOP TOM and HIS JUMP CATS! This will be a FREE event for SBDC members, and is $3 for UCSB students, and $10 for general admission.
    This will take place in UCSB's Student Resources Building, from 9:00 pm to 12:00 midnight. There will be a FREE Swing Dance lesson prior to the dance, beginning at 8:00 pm. Light refreshments will be provided. Large wooden dance floor. NO Partners needed. Everyone is welcome. All ages OK. This event is co-sponsored by the UCSB OSL After Dark Late Nite Social Programming Fund$.

  3. SBDC Fall Quarter “FRIDAY the 13th” Swing Dance with ROB RIO! (solo)
    date: Friday, November 13th, 2009
    location: UCSB Robertson Gym room 2320 (upstairs)
    time: 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm
    cost: SBDC Members: FREE; UCSB Students: $3; General Admission: $10.
    details: The SBDC will be holding our next Special Live Band “FRIDAY the 13th” Swing Dance on Friday, November 13th, featuring the outstanding Swing and Boogie-Woogie Piano playing of Rob Rio (solo). This will be held from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm in UCSB Robertson Gym room 2320 (upstairs). Cost: SBDC Members: Free; UCSB Students: $3, Non-Students: $10. The SBDC will be providing light refreshments. No partners needed. All ages OK. Bring your friends, too.

  4. Saturday Night Ballroom Dance, ROAD TRIP
    date: Various Saturday nights throughout the year!
    location: Carrillo Recreation Center Ballroom, 100 E. Carrillo St, SB
    time: 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm, including dance lesson 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm
    cost: $15 (students with ID: $12)
    sponsored by: Jonathan Bixby.
    other: There will be Saturday night Dances on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Saturdays in each month. Each with a different “theme”: Country, Tango, or Ballroom (International and American Style). These will be with DJ/Recorded Music only. The SBDC can arrange transportation to/from the Saturday Night Ballroom Dance, if needed.
