Highlights of Spring Quarter 2001 SBDC Activities

The Swing and Ballroom Dance Club was very active this quarter. Here is a summary of some of our recent Spring Quarter events and activities. (Photos will be added soon.)

SBDC Week #5 Theme Dance: "GLOW in the DARK NIGHT"!
The Week #5 (April 30th) "GLOW in the DARK NIGHT" Theme Dance was definitely a big hit!. Everyone had glow stick necklaces to wear. Many SBDC members had other glowing body parts and hair! The fun continued as we danced with the lights out.

SBDC 1950's Sock Hop Dance and BBQ!
The Swing and Ballroom Dance Club's 5th Annual 1950's Sock Hop Dance Part and BBQ (Saturday, 19 May 2001) was a lot of fun! The SBDC hosted a 1950's type BBQ at the Goleta Valley Community Center, with hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, sodas, and lots of ice cream and root beer floats. This was followed by an authentic 1950's dance, with music provided by the SBDC DJ's. The ballroom was completely decorated in 1950's memorabilia, including lots of Elvis (and Betty Boop), and balloons! The event was started with a free Swing Dance lesson at 3:0o pm, the BBQ started at 4:00 pm, and the dance went from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. There was a break in the dancing just long enough to hold our famous SBDC Limbo Bar Contest! See you all at the next event!

SBDC Dance Etiquette "Tip of the Week"
As a continuing feature, the Swing and Ballroom Dance Club publishes a weekly Dance Etiquette "Tip of the Week". Each week, we announce the etiquette tip, and then it is posted on the SBDC Web Site.

SBDC Weekly Basics I and II Lesson Schedule
As another continuing feature for the Spring Quarter, the SBDC Weekly Basics I and Basics II Lesson Schedule is posted on the SBDC Web Site. For Spring Quarter, we alternated weeks between Swing Dance Lessons and Ballroom Dance Lessons. SBDC club members are able to find the dance topics of interest from the schedule, and plan in advance to attend those lessons. All lessons are supervised or conducted by the SBDC club officers.
