Highlights of Spring Quarter 2006 SBDC Activities

The SBDC was quite active this past quarter. We held 1 formal workshop, featuring Joshua James (Cha-Cha and Latin Styling). We held 2 x major dances (“No-Frills” = no decorations or costumes, just music, refreshments, and chairs!). Plus we added some different dance topics to our Basic I lessons (“Courtney’s Choice”, “Argentine Tango”, “Salsa”, and the “Balboa”) Here is a summary of some of our recent Spring Quarter 2006 activities and events (photos will be added in the future, when available).

SBDC Dance Etiquette "Tip of the Week"
As an ongoing feature, the Swing and Ballroom Dance Club publishes a weekly Dance Etiquette "Tip of the Week". Each week, we announce the etiquette tip, and then it is posted on the SBDC Web Site.

SBDC Weekly Basics I Lesson Schedule
As another continuing feature, the SBDC Weekly Basics I Lesson Schedule is posted on the SBDC Web Site. For Spring Quarter, we provided our members with a wide range of dance subjects. SBDC club members are able to find the dance topics of interest from the schedule, and plan in advance to attend those lessons. All lessons are supervised or conducted by the SBDC club officers.

Spring Quarter Major Dances (x2), Workshop, and Theme Nights (x3)!
The SBDC held our “No-Frills” Dances on Saturday, February May 13th, and Saturday June 3rd. The SBDC provided the music, the refreshments, and the chairs. And the dancers came and danced!

The SBDC held a specialty “Cha-Cha” and “Latin Styling” Workshop on Saturday, April 22nd. This featured our special guest, Joshua James.
For Spring Quarter, we held three Theme Nights: “Pajama Jammy Jam” on June 12th, “Come as a T-Party” on May 29th, and “Hollywood Theme Night” on April 24th. These were a lot of fun. People dressed in appropriate costumes, and prizes were awarded.

The SBDC Swing Show Team performed at the Santa Barbara Fair and Expo (Earl Warren Show Grounds) in April, and at the SBDC “No-Frills” Dance in June. Most of the Show Team members will be in the area for the summer, so more performance opportunities are possible, up through September!
