Summary of Winter Quarter 2000 SBDC Activities

Listed below is a summary of the Swing and Ballroom Dance Club activities for the Winter Quarter 2000.

The Rhythm Hot Shots Special Performance at Campbell Hall
Wow! What a performance by The Rhythm Hot Shots on Saturday Night (January 22nd)! The show was spectacular. "What Is This Thing Called Swing?" was a major production featuring the touring members of the Swedish Lindy Hop performance group, The Rhythm Hot Shots. They wrote, directed, and produced this musical extravaganza which featured Lindy Hop, Aerials, Tap, Charleston, Black Bottom, Jazz, Comedy, and more! Very special thanks go to Sylvia of Jonathan and Sylvia Swing Dancing for bringing the TRHS to Santa Barbara, and for making the performance a reality. Also, special thanks go all the officers of the Swing and Ballroom Dance Club at UCSB for their help in bringing the performance to UCSB's Campbell Hall and helping make it happen. And thanks to all those who attended!

The Rhythm Hot Shots Sunday Workshops
The Rhythm Hot Shots Sunday Workshops (January 23rd) were a blast! The TRHS members taught two workshops on Sunday morning at UCSB, in Charleston and Aerials. They also taught three workshops on Sunday afternoon at the Carrillo Rec Center, in Lindy Hop (beginning, intermediate, and styling). This was a rare opportunity for all of us to be able to take a full day of classes from five different sets of TRHS instructors! Thanks to everyone who had an opportunity to attend one of more of these workshops

4th Annual SBDC Valentine's Dance
The SBDC held its 4th Annual Valentine's Dance (Saturday February 12th) at the Goleta Valley Community Center. The SBDC provided the music (a mix of Swing, Ballroom, and Latin), the decorations (lots of balloons, plus 2 balloon arches), and the refreshments (yum!). We also provided the special entertainment: Congratulations to the SBDC Ballroom Performance Group on their premier engagement at the Valentine's Dance. The group performed well to an enthusiastic audience! The Valentine's Dance went well too.
