SWING and BALLROOM DANCE CLUB Weekly Meetings (SUMMER 2009 INFO)
1. SBDC Club Practice Meetings will be held weekly throughout summer (June to September) in the Robertson Gym Room 2320 (upstairs), on MONDAY nights, beginning JUNE 29th. Schedule: June 29th through September 7th 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Watch for schedule change announcements.
2. There is NO CHARGE for participating in any of the summer SBDC activities! Just come and dance! Totally FREE.
3. The weekly practice meeting will be used for open dancing, practicing, socializing, or learning new steps.
4. Reminder: UCSB enforces nighttime/weekend parking in all lots. The closest parking lot to Robertson Gym is the “Mesa Parking Garage” (East of Rob Gym). UCSB enforces nighttime/weekend parking in all lots. $3 per night, or $12 for 30-day nighttime permit.

** UCSB 2009 Leadership and Activity Awards: The Swing and Ballroom Dance Club was the winner of the 2009 “Late Night Social Programming Award”, from the Leadership Development Center! This award was for the highly successful and always popular Friday and Saturday Night Swing Dance Events that the SBDC sponsored each school quarter. Congratulations and thanks to everyone who helped make this award possible!
** SBDC SPRING QUARTER 2009, Remaining week :
NO SBDC Meetings for MONDAY JUNE 15 and MONDAY JUNE 22.
** SBDC SUMMER 2009: MONDAY NIGHTS Open Dancing, Beginning MONDAY JUNE 29th. The SBDC will have MONDAY NIGHT OPEN DANCING! Totally FREE! At UCSB Robertson Gym Room 2320 (upstairs). There is NO Membership Fee for any SBDC Summer activities. Just come and dance! Bring your friends. Schedule: June 29th through the beginning of September, Rob Gym Room 2320, 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
**UCSB Summer Session 2009 Leisure Review Class: Jitterbug Swing. MONDAY nights beginning June 29th for 4-weeks. UCSB Robertson Gym room 2320 (upstairs), 6:30 pm to 7:45 pm. This beginning-level class will work on steps, techniques, and styling of different Swing Dances, including Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, and East Coast Style Swing. If time permits, we will introduce Swing Dance Line Dances. Taught by Steve Carlan and Anna Hernandez of the Swing and Ballroom Dance Club at UCSB. ** Sad News about Wendy DiRodio. We are all deeply saddened and shocked by the recent senseless and brutal murder of one our beloved Santa Barbara dancers, Wendy DiRodio. ** Sad News about Frankie Manning. Frankie Manning, the Legendary Master and Ambassador of the Lindy Hop, passed away peacefully in the morning on Monday April 27th, of complications from pneumonia. He was one month away from his 95th birthday, which was going to be celebrated in New York City by thousands of dedicated Lindy Hop fans. Frankie was an inspiration to everyone who met him, and his enthusiasm and smile were as infectious as the energy of the music and the Lindy Hop. NEW SBDC Member, membership fee: $20 for the school quarter.
RENEWING SBDC Membership fee: $10/students or $15/non-students, for the school quarter.
“Drop-in-Fee”: $5 (one-time only per quarter) (for anyone who has already visited the SBDC at least one time).
There is NO FEE for any SUMMER SBDC activity.

(2) Friday 6/19/2009. Third Friday Swing Dance in SB. With: Stompy Jones.
Time: 8:30 pm to 12:00 midnight; Location: Carrillo Recreation Center Ballroom, 100 E. Carrillo St, SB.
The band will be Stompy Jones. Cost: $12. (Students: $10). Sponsored by Jonathan and Sylvia Swing Dancing. A swing dance lesson will be given from 7:30 pm to 8:15 pm, just prior to the dance. Very large dance floor. No need to BYOP. All ages OK. More info at: http://www.jonathanandsylvia.com.
(3) Saturday 6/20/2009. Saturday Night Dance. Theme: International Ballroom.
Time: 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm; Location: Carrillo Recreation Center Ballroom, 100 E. Carrillo St, SB.
The dance goes from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm, with a lesson from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Recorded/DJ Music. Each Saturday of the month has a different “theme” (Country, Tango, Ballroom, West Coast Swing, etc.). Cost: $15 (Students $12). Sponsored by Jonathan Bixby. Very large dance floor. All ages welcome!
