TA Board updates...

It has been a busy quarter for the board. Please see the attached minutes for the September and October TA board meetings.
Although we were almost rained out, we did have a few tenants that braved the weather to come to share their thoughts and concerns at the General Membership meetings (notes are attached as well). We will be having a holiday event in December where we can follow up on resident concerns and review potential bylaw revisions. Details to follow shortly. We hope to see you there!

FSH Tenants' Association Fall General Membership Meeting

Just a quick reminder to attend the West Campus General Membership Meeting Wednesday, October 14, at 7pm in the WC Community Center. Come ready to voice any concerns, share ideas, and review the by-laws with TA Board members. We realize the rain can be a deterrent so if we do not have a high turnout, we will be rescheduling the meeting for both Storke and WC. 2009-2010 Election Results

We had a great turn out at the election last night, over 100 people voted. Thanks to everyone who ran for office or came to vote. Special thanks to our election officials Kristy Schow and Lauren Cagas, the President and Vice President of GSACC.

Reelection Announcement and April/May Newsletter

Hello all,

The date for the spring General Membership Meeting and Reelection is set for June 2nd, 6 pm in the West Campus Community Center. At this meeting we will be nominating and voting on the 2009-2010 Tenant's Association Board. See the bylaws section E. Residents wishing to run for a position just need to show up and submit their nomination. Each nominee will have an opportunity to speak briefly about why the tenants should elect them. After that, we will vote for all positions. See the newsletter below or the bylaws for descriptions of the positions on the board. All FSH residents whose households receive less than $200/month from housing are eligible to vote (please bring your ID!). TA positions are open to all residents whose households receive zero compensation from housing.

The election committee has called a reelection. The current voting days are cancelled and a reelection will be held in approximately two weeks, date to be announced soon, to nominate AND vote on all board positions. Please see the reelection announcement and the by-laws for more information.

To give people a bit more time to complete their statement of candidacy, we will be accepting late statements until Friday, May 8th at 5 p.m. Serving as a member of the Tenant's Association Board is a great way to get involved in the FSH community and help your fellow residents. For more information on the board positions, duties, and stipends see the Election Flyer attached to the previous election post.

In May, we will be holding elections for next year's Tenant's Association officers. We are looking for FSH tenants who want to represent their neighbors in meeting with housing and help keep FSH a great community for students. The officer positions are:

President
Vice President
Secretary/Webmaster
Treasurer
West Campus Representative
Storke I Representative
Storke II Representative

General Membership Meeting

About the TA Board

What We Do
We are a self-governing group of FSH residents. The Tenants’ Association (TA) was originally organized in 1999. The TA works to ensure that the voice of residents is heard and housing decisions and policies are made with input from residents. Our board members are available to you seven days a week. We will help you solve problems by sharing information with you and getting involved if your efforts alone have not solved the problem. We seek policy changes that will improve our families’ quality of life.

About The Fee
An annual $27.00 TA fee is charged to each FSH apartment every summer. The amount was approved by FSH residents in an election and can’t be increased without an election. The TA website, orgs.sa.ucsb.edu/tenants has our budget if you want further details.

Issues & Projects
Past Year Successes: Protective hedge near street between front of Grounds and 794 Storke Apartments, filling of large street pothole at Storke, the clearing of overgrown brush @ West Campus and near bike path between Francisco Torres and Storke to eliminate the homeless encampment and minimizing the problems connected w/ the dangers of raccoon feces.

Current Issues: Continued efforts to change the time limit for housing extensions and TA efforts to help trouble shoot the ending of the YRP Program (Youth Recreational Program) here at FSH in order for the families affected to find an alternate solution for childcare.

Future Issues: Continued efforts to change the time limit for housing extensions, dangers associated w/ raccoon feces and mold in our apartments.
