Session III: Saturday 3:45-4:45 pm

ACTIVISM & POLITICS: "Act(ion) and Outcome: Queering the Self-publishing Process"

This workshop will begin with the question, "why write?", and will show how the multiple answers to that question can become manifest in a Do-It-Yourself publishing process that will mirror the reasons for writing. Zines, broadsheets, culture jamming, and the like will be covered. What will NOT be covered are tactics for getting into the mainstream media. All are welcome, no matter what your experience with writing or publishing.

Presenter: Risa Rice is a day-today sensualist, bon vivant and queer shit-stirrer! She grew up working-class in Arizona but prefers not to think about it. A poet by nature and by disposition, she is an "action writer" whose anonymous works includes biting satires in chalk, febrile insinuations in marker, and liberal commentary in wheatpaste and paint. She publishes "Pirate Jenny: a zine for your inner feminist revolutionary" and "bitter old jew", and designs grain towers under the name pj goodman.
