UCLGBTA General Assembly—featuring Judith Boyette (UCOP)

UCLGBTA is the University of California Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Association. UCLGBTA meets at a minimum once each year at the Annual Conference and conducts a General Assembly to review issues of interest and concern with its members. UCLGBTA is:

* Officially recognized by the UC Office of the President as a systemwide advisory group for LGBT issues;
* An organizing network for the leaders of UC lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender organizations;
* The means for them to exchange information systemwide;
* The means to coordinate and promote programming, education and outreach related to the UC Q/LGBT Resource Centers and Chancellors advisory committees on LGBT issues;
* A vehicle to promote LGBT curriculum; and
* An organized entity that addresses issues of campus and workplace environment, discrimination/nondiscrimination; policy matters and domestic partnership and housing benefits.

UCLGBTA promotes and inspires communication among lesbians, gay, bisexual and transgender people within the UC system. UCLGBTA is open to UC students, faculty/academics, staff and alumni of all sexual, political, religious, economic, ethnic and gender identities.

UCLGBTA has worked closely with Judith Boyette, University of California Office of the President Associate Vice President for Human Resources to address issues such as domestic partnership benefits, policy development, non-discrimination and work environment. UCLGBTA is pleased to present Judith Boyette as its featured speaker during the UCLGBTA General Assembly.

Judith Boyette is the Associate Vice President for Human Resources and Benefits for the University of California System which includes over 120,000 staff employees from 10 campuses, five medical schools, three law schools, and three national laboratories managed by U.C. for the U. S. Department of Energy. She joined the University of California Office of the President in 1997. Among Ms. Boyette's responsibilities as AVP is the integration of Human Resources and Benefits functions at the University's Systemwide office in Oakland. Presently, Judith Boyette and her staff are working directly with UCLGBTA to explore and consider many things including: extension of pension benefits to surviving domestic partners of University employees; changes and improvements in existing staff personnel policy language to comprehensively include same sex domestic partners; and expansion of the University's non-discrimination policy to include gender and gender identity.
