OUR COMMUNITY: "Hate Crimes on Our
Campuses"
This informative program will offer an overview on hate crimes and
hate incidents with a special emphasis on hate crimes and incidents in
the college environment and in the sexual minority community.
Definitions, case studies, local, state and national statistics, and
prevention information will be shared and discussed. Additionally, there
will be a discussion (including copies of recent relevant articles for
all participants) on the philosophical underpinnings and arguments both
for and against hate crimes laws that have been offered by well-known
activists within the community.
Presenter: Brandon Michael Brod is UCSB's Conduct
Educator and Hate Incidents Response Coordinator. He received his Master
of Education in Counseling Psychology degree from James Madison
University. He has worked extensively on college campuses in Residence
Life and with Judicial Affairs. He also worked as a counselor for one
year in the prison system with sexually aggressive male adolescents.
