Session VI: Sunday, 1:15-2:15 pm

OURSELVES: "Inverting the Teaching Process with Parents: What happens when you have to educate them?"

This panel discussion will address issues that we often encounter when coming out to parents and making the transition to "out lives". Some topics include how to come out to parents, available resources, and what happens if things don’t go well. Well also touch on later concerns about bringing someone home and reconciling your family ideals with those of your parents. Bring your ideas and stories!

Presenters: The Queer Student Union of UCSB is a student-run group that provides for the political, social, and personal needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, questioning, and ally students on campus. QSU’s goals include creating a safe space for LGBT students and raising awareness about queer issues on campus. Natalie Lakey is co-chair of QSU, and Lauren Lauterio is secretary of QSU.
